Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements

A prenuptial agreement is a formal written agreement entered into before marriage / civil partnership to record the financial arrangements of a couple in the event of the dissolution of the relationship.  Often the aim is to avoid protracted financial disputes as well as to protect assets and, in many cases, wider family interests (e.g. family businesses, trusts).

Postnuptial agreements have the same purpose, but are entered into after the creation of the marriage or civil partnership.
